Woody Roamer

Affectionately known as the "Little Wood'n Puddin' Head", little Woody Roamer was the joy of Art's life. Art's "True Son" was in reality a ventriloquist figure but Art never seemed to notice. There have been many stories of how Woody was born, but the most famous is perhaps the story that was documented in the award-nominated short film starring Miss Trudy Velvet where he was born with the help of a woodsman who was a strange cross between a medical surgeon and a tree surgeon. Another rumor of his birth involves an overnight stay of Art with a wooden cigar woman. (She was a birch!).

Every year on Woody's birthday he turns age 5, a fact that is unexplained by medical science.

Art Roamer has always tried to help little Woody know the difference between right and wrong, and Woody has always tried to be good little boy. The task was made more difficult because of the influence of the Mystery Man and Nick Java, not to mention the crafty schemes of Bob Broley. The Mystery Man tempted him with cigars and naughty Nick Java tried to lead him into all sorts of trouble.

Newsman Bob Broley with the Impostor

Bob Broley simply tried to get him into trouble so he wouldn't have to be saddled with Woody's care, a task he considered to be beneath him. Broley was known to scare Woody with a big drill which he claimed was a dentist's drill, when Woody wanted candy, and to scare him with talk of aliens. One of the worst things Broley did was when he brought in a Woody imposter to try to fool Art while he had Woody tied up elsewhere. Woody wasn't entirely defenseless and was known to make jokes and do pranks at Bob Broley's expense, often during his most "important" interviews, a practice that simply galled the ARTV newsman.

A lot of people at the A & R Ranch and at ARTV were happy to care for Woody; people such as Cowgirl Carlie, Mystery Woman, Buzzy Cookman (although he enjoyed teasing the boy), and even the tender Marvelous Marvie. The little boy often tagged-along with Art and Buzzy on numerous adventures. Many times such adventures centered around Woody, owing to the trouble the boy would often get himself into.
